Why Building Your Instructor Team is Essential to Your School

Why Building Your Instructor Team is Essential to Your School

Every Martial Arts school values bench strength. Build your teaching team. Attending unique events (e.g., instructor college, instructor vacation) can stimulate, thrill, and revitalize your educators. Motivate everyone. Motivate them to educate better. Through this, both your teacher team and your pupils will thrive.

Enroll your instructors in instructor certification events to inspire and educate them. Great teachers are inspiring. They should set goals for their students and a target number. Through experiences like these, they learn to be better teachers and more engaged in class. These events will also drive kids to develop end-of-term goals and teach them how to achieve them. Going into instructor certification, having someone motivate, inspire, thrill, and back them on martial arts and being an exceptional instructor. Your instructor team will be energized and ready to teach after these activities.

There are four key principles when it comes to teaching any technique;

  1. Demonstrate it, make it exciting for your students,
  2. Teach it where they follow along and you do it with them. Make it powerful.
  3. Drill it
  4. The last one is the performance. This is where the transformation is. If your instructor team is strong, everyone will see it through your students. The result will reflect how well your instructor team is. No matter which age group your instructors belong – some of them can be as young as 6 years old, if they have the power to motivate and teach the students then it will definitely show in the students’ performances.

As instructors, they are one of the biggest factors when it comes to bringing change to the community. The kids look up to them, and together, we’re all going to change the world. That’s the power of Martial Arts, the power of community. We do not only teach and hone kids into becoming martial arts masters but we’re also bringing change into our community.

Why Upgrade Programs are Important in Martial Arts Schools

Why Upgrade Program is Important in Martial Arts Schools

What is an Upgrade Program? Why is it essential for Martial Art school to have an upgrade program? How will upgrade programs help in your school? A lot of school owners are not familiar with what an upgrade program is. The upgrade program is a program you create as a school owner to ensure that your students will have the opportunity to move levels until they reach their desired belt color.

When we think about upgrades in other industries as well as ours, its reputation is connected to generating a lot of revenues. However, that is just the result of having a successful upgrade culture in your school. Upgrade doesn’t mean upselling to generate more income, upgrade should be a form of reward – an opportunity. It is about giving your students an opportunity to train on a different level by creating a culture that allows them to set long-term goals to make an impact on their lives. That is by giving the students the very best. In Martial Arts, we use a blackbelt as a symbolic gesture to represent that value.

This is a mindset that school owners need to have when they upgrade their students or when they want to create an upgrade program. The first thing you should put in mind is laying down a strong foundation by clearly defining what an upgrade means to you. By upgrading your students, what do you want to see them accomplish, what values can they get more out of your program by being part of this upgrade, and what impact will it have on your student? You need to solidify that foundation in your school before going to the next level.

Upgrade programs should look at what the fun in Martial Arts is and build friendships. Fun is forever so use it to your advantage and incorporate it into your upgrade program. You should encourage building friendships between your students because a lot of students enjoy Martial Arts because of the friendship they built. Keep in mind that upgrade programs should be tailored for the benefit of your students. The Upgrade program is a reward for your students for all of the hard work they have put into their craft so you as school owners should strive hard to give them the best of the best.

Why Building Rapport is the Best Way to Get Clients

Even for schools, getting clients is one of the top priorities, but sometimes, getting students to enroll is a challenge. We’ve seen a lot of schools get students through digital marketing, Facebook ads, handing out flyers on the streets, and many more. This may work but allow us to give you a much better way – something we’ve been doing for years and has proven to be effective.

As the owner of your business, be the ambassador. Go out there and meet people face to face – be an Evangelist to your business wherever you go. You must be a strong advocate of the results that your community can get by attending your classes. Compel people to come into your school and take part in the benefits. Therefore, we believe that building rapport is the best way to get clients. This method is something that we’ve been using for years.

The best way to build rapport is to smile and make eye contact with people. If this is something you haven’t done before or don’t often do, start with smiling and making eye contact with strangers. Through this, your confidence will slowly get built until you find yourself making small talk with people you’ve never met before. It might take some practice but once you get the hang of it, it will be worth it. Once you feel comfortable enough, you can now take the next step.

Building rapport is a process, it’s not something where you just randomly jump and go “hi, we have a promo going on” and hand them a flier because doing that might turn them off and make them leave. Instead, start talking about anything else except for Martial Arts. Maybe start by asking how they’re doing, how old their kid is, or about the weather. Build that connection slowly until you finally establish it then start introducing Martial Arts – tell them how you’re in Martial Arts, how you help a lot of kids, etc. Pique their interest by asking them what benefits they or their kids would like to get out of Martial Arts. Once they tell you what they want to benefit from, you can tell them what you do in the school to help them get it and then invite them to come into the school.

Building rapport might be something that requires you to be proactive but it’s a method that is very effective and something that we can strongly testify to. If you are having doubts, why not give it a try and see for yourself? If it’s not your cup of tea, then it’s fine. At the end of the day, what’s important is that you gave it a try.

How to Inspire More People to Try Martial Arts

How to Inspire More People to Try Martial Arts

Have you ever seen someone that has ultimately benefited from your teachings?

It is important to keep on track with this and discuss it in your staff meetings.

If you truly believe that what you do changes lives and you have things that back it up, and you’ve seen how their lives changed, then your attitude changes about everything you do when it comes to marketing your school — you will have more confidence in your program.

You can do whatever it takes to compel people to come in and take part in your program

If you are not seeing those types of results yet, don’t worry about it, change your approach first so you have a methodical way to make someone from A to B – from unconfident to confident, to disrespectful to respectful.

If you don’t have that kind of transformation yet, don’t market yet, but rather focus on working with the fundamentals of actually changing lives.

Start taking those success stories and putting them into a document and if these stories are being shared over and over again with your staff, the students, and parents people will buy into the fact that you’re going to help them too.

We need to have the guts and confidence to go out and talk to people and share our school success stories. Be the advocate of your school.

3 Tips On Leveling Up Your School

Leveling up your martial arts school doesn’t really have to be hard, you just need to optimize and make sure that every aspect of your business accommodates the leads and the customers.

Here’s the first part of how you can level up your school:

  1. Aesthetics

The number one thing you noticed when you walk into a martial arts school is the smell. Always make sure to make your school a nice place to be. Make sure that when someone comes into your school, their subconscious minds say that your school is clean, it smells good and the ambiance is bright.

Imagine a person walking into your school and what they first notice is the smell of foot, or sweat it will automatically register in the subconscious mind negatively.

Even though you are really accommodating to their needs but they’ll still not feel right about their experience because of the ambiance of your school.

This is our tip for you, invite a friend that has never been to your school then ask them to your site’s smell and sound.

  1. Digital Marketing

The marketing games have been extremely challenging. In this era, it’s important to connect with potential customers on the world wide web.

  1. Automated marketing

To make your school successful, you need to do the following: Generate leads, make them an offer, set them an appointment, and have them show up, enroll, attend classes, then upgrade or renew the membership then we’ll get referrals — all of these can be automated.

This is a necessity especially when people opt-in to your website you would never want the relationship to end.

What Do Leaders Do in Times of Crisis?

Some people when a crisis happens will freeze and don’t move. If there’s danger, their brain can’t comprehend it, so they do nothing and allow the crisis to overcome them with fear.

Here’s my question to you, what do the leaders do, do we become victims? I don’t think so.

As a leader, we need to stand up. And you as a martial arts instructor, have been trained to be a leader and an instructor all of your life. Be the leader who directs the people who are fearful, what we can do is to take our minds off the fear and victimhood then turn our brains and our emotions and actions towards victory.

We provide training to our students without putting them in danger.

We provide guidance to students who feel lost and confused.

When people are afraid, they need leadership and people that are going to help them.

The energy of the people being fearful and aggressive can make your muscles tense and as martial arts instructors, we help them stay relaxed under the most stressful conditions.

As a leader, we serve with great honor, discipline, and dedication to take risks for the survival of others.

The Most Uncomfortable Thing to Do as a School Owner

Most of us started building our own school because of the impact that the martial arts have on us and it is something that we want to share with the world.

So opening a school is not just a business, but also a passion. And when we are passionate about something, money is the last equation.

I hope all of you realize that we can be passionate and also live the lifestyle of our dreams in martial arts. Our industry is thriving.

It is our nature as human beings that if we do something brand new or do something out of our comfort zone can be challenging.

You have the right to be compensated in return for teaching them the impact and benefits of martial arts, and the way how it impacted you as a school owner.

You can’t put a price tag on confidence, focus and discipline therefore don’t be afraid to ask about the tuition, and don’t be afraid to ask them to pay in full.

This is an investment for the students because the return is greater than the monetary value.

That is one thing you got to start understanding and get comfortable with asking for large amounts of money from your students.

A Reminder You Should Keep In Mind As A Martial Arts Leader

A-Reminder-To-Martial-Arts-Leader

A powerful reminder that you need to keep in mind as a martial arts leader.

This reminder is constantly being in the mindset and the awareness of ‘WHY’.

The why of people around you and your school.

The why is a powerful motivation for people to take action and the most important ‘why’ that you need to stay focused on is pain.

Every single one of your students has a reason why they are coming to your academy.

The more you understand their pain and why, the better your job is serving them.

If you can go to their parents, you will know the deeper and find out their core detailed reason for what their children are experiencing.

If you constantly serving your students why you are the solution to the pain that they are experiencing, you will make a huge difference in their lives as a martial arts leader, that should be the main purpose of your academy.

Therefore, I employ all of you to stay in that mindset – that you are there to serve and help them overcome the pain they are experiencing and that you are the solution that can empower them.

This is the sole purpose of a martial artist – you want to help your community in this way.

As a Leader, You must Have a purpose-driven culture allows you to have a destination

Culture Is Having a Purpose-Driven Martial Arts Academy

I also want to remind you that you’re in the business of self-improvement and you’re using martial arts as a tool to instill the values.

In order to do that, you need to stay in alignment with the pains they are experiencing and your academy is the solution.

When A Parent Says My Child Doesn’t Want To Do It Anymore

“My child longer doesn’t want to do martial arts anymore.”

And for a lot of martial arts school owners, this is like an uppercut and would be asking “why”.

I encourage you to feel excited when that happens and tell the parents…

“I’m so happy that you are here and most importantly I’m happier and excited that your child wants to quit.”

With that, the parents will give you a baffled reaction.

Then tell them this.

“Let me ask you a question, do you remember when you walk into our school and took a tour and you saw that big writing in the mirror we are a blackbelt school and your goal is to become a black belt. After the introduction, we shared our philosophy of the school and we mentioned in the beginning that the student will be evaluated in a short program to see if the student has what it takes to become a black belt apprentice and we asked your child about the importance of that commitment and the promise they have made for themselves.”

Explain to the parents that they’ll have a tremendous opportunity to really teach their child the importance of overcoming adversity and teach them to persevere, not quit, and stay forward.

We have the opportunity to teach them that or just let them quit and think about what is in their best interest, but encourage the parents to not force them to do something they do not enjoy, but convince them if it’s in their best interest.

Tell the parents that when their child says that they want this, the next thing as a parent is to enforce what that means, the responsibility and the work that comes with it, and one day your children will look back one day and say thank you for not letting them quit.

That is one of the most important values that you will teach your child and we are your third-party allies to do this.
